The Importance of Vaccination

In the 18th century, Edward Jenner, a British doctor, completely changed the world health panorama with Vaccination, with vaccines being the greatest advance in Modern Medicine.

Vaccination is one of the most effective and least expensive ways to prevent infectious diseases. This form of active immunization is scientifically proven and, according to data from the World Health Organization, prevents between two and three million deaths annually from diseases such as measles, tetanus or whooping cough.

In Portugal, the National Vaccination Program (PNV) is strongly implemented and reinforces the idea of ??this act as a mix of right and conscious duty for Public Health.

With Vaccines, diseases can be controlled and eliminated, reducing the possibilities of contagion of some pathologies and, in some cases, such as smallpox, in their eradication. The greater the adherence to a vaccine within the community, the lower the possibility of a contagious disease causing an Epidemic or Pandemic. This phenomenon of indirect protection is called "Group Immunity" and results from the reduced circulation of the microorganism that causes the disease, due to mass vaccination.

During this decades-long experience, and after millions of vaccines administered, a high degree of Safety, Efficacy and Quality with vaccination has been scientifically guaranteed.
