International Epilepsy Day Start › News < back 13 Feb 2023 February 13th is International Epilepsy Day, with the aim of increasing awareness of epilepsy around the world. This day is a joint initiative with the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), where the Portuguese League Against Epilepsy (LPCE) also joins this initiative. The objective of these initiatives is to raise awareness of this chronic neurological disease, which is estimated to affect more than 65 million people worldwide, and more than 60 thousand people in Portugal. It is believed that through better knowledge of this pathology and after deconstructing several myths associated with this disease, it will be possible to overcome prejudice towards people with epilepsy.
